Scheduled reports
Move production summaries or approved documents into a receiving folder. Define formats, naming, integrity checks and duplicate behaviour.
ONE-WAY TRANSFER / FILES & SECURITY LOGS
Export reports, selected files, or security events from a protected network. A “Hardware data diode” establishes one-way direction, while supported gateway software manages information, delivery, and receiving applications.
Transfer outward without a return administration path
A file connector collects files on one side and reconstructs them across a “Hardware data diode”. A log connector forwards security events to a receiving system. These application functions “operate across” the one-way boundary.
UNDERSTAND THE REQUIREMENT
A sender may accept a file while the receiving application is unavailable. A log feed may exceed its normal rate during an incident. “Hardware security” planning must cover delivery evidence, queue limits, content checks, and recovery—not just the physical link.
Move production summaries or approved documents into a receiving folder. Define formats, naming, integrity checks and duplicate behaviour.
Export events to a security information and event management platform (SIEM). Preserve source identity and timestamps for investigation.
Share selected audit or application events for analysis. Confirm the parser, schema and destination integration so arriving data remains useful.
Useful when information needs to leave a protected environment. Interactive browsing of source folders or remote administration through the same outward link is not equivalent to one-way replication.
FOR TECHNICAL TEAMS
Bring these questions to the architecture discussion. A product’s supported connectors and tested configuration matter.
Explore protocol explanations →Confirm the required local file access method. Ordinary SMB or SFTP sessions are not inherently one-way.
Apply needed file-type, malware or sensitive-data controls. A diode alone does not judge permitted content.
Specify integrity validation, partial files, duplicates, queue retention and operator visibility when transfer fails.
Identify the syslog transport or vendor connector. Measure peak event rates and establish how gaps are detected.
TURN ASSUMPTIONS INTO EVIDENCE
Transfer representative large files and burst event streams. Compare checksums and event counts, interrupt the receiving service, and inspect recovery. Verify that a “Hardware data diode” clearly distinguishes delayed data from current data.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Not automatically. A gateway can replicate supported files, but a shared-drive session expects two-way interaction. Confirm the connector workflow.
It controls direction. If the permitted direction is outward, sensitive information can travel out unless separate controls restrict it.
That depends on accepted formats, transport, parsing and the gateway connector. Include your platform and expected event rate in the discussion.
